Job Title: Adviser (Policy)

ECO Magazine is seeking an experienced Adviser (Policy) to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic, policy, and technical advice to Commonwealth Member countries and regional organizations on ocean governance and the development of ocean-based economies.

About the Role

The Adviser (Policy) will work within our Trade, Oceans and Natural Resources Division, supporting the development efforts of Member countries through the provision of legal and economic advice, technical assistance, and capacity building. The role will involve managing projects under the ocean governance program and delivering strategic, policy, and technical advice on ocean governance and the development of ocean-based economies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic, policy, and technical advice to Commonwealth Member countries and regional organizations on ocean governance and the development of ocean-based economies.
  • Manage projects under the ocean governance program and deliver strategic, policy, and technical advice on ocean governance and the development of ocean-based economies.
  • Support the development efforts of Member countries through the provision of legal and economic advice, technical assistance, and capacity building.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must have a post-graduate degree in a relevant area of specialization, with an emphasis on environmental economics, renewable energy technologies, ocean-based industries, and/or the management of living and non-living marine resources, including international fisheries. A minimum of ten years' experience at a senior level relating to maritime boundaries and ocean governance gained in government ministry, as a consultant, or in the private industry, in an international context is also required.

Candidates should have experience in areas related to trends in international ocean governance, sustainable ocean-based economies, and law of the sea issues. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills, are essential for this role.
