Location: Barrow-in-Furness

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a Community Pharmacy Specialist to join our dedicated team in Barrow-in-Furness, focusing on both inpatient and community mental health services. This role is designed for individuals who thrive in collaborative environments and wish to contribute to a multidisciplinary team that ensures seamless patient care.

The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the clinical team, including a Clinical Pharmacist, to meet the pharmaceutical needs of patients and service users. The position also requires effective communication with patients, caregivers, primary care providers, inpatient mental health services, and local healthcare trusts.

A key responsibility will be to maintain safe and efficient medication management practices within the service. This includes adhering to regulatory standards and implementing safety protocols for medication use. As a vital member of the pharmacy team, you will have the chance to engage in broader organizational initiatives and priorities. Flexibility to travel between various Trust locations may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities

We seek a motivated and enthusiastic individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of managing their workload effectively. You will deliver high-quality pharmaceutical care as part of a wider multidisciplinary team. The implementation of Clozapine One-Stop clinics will be a significant aspect of your role, contributing to the development and execution of this service.

Your time spent in the inpatient unit will facilitate your professional growth and enhance your skills, particularly beneficial for those with mental health experience.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BTEC or equivalent qualification as a Pharmacy Technician, with knowledge of pharmaceutical service procedures through NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science, or equivalent, along with post-qualification training and four years of practical experience in primary or secondary care.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Proven experience and understanding of the safe and secure handling of medications and their relation to medication policies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NHS standards concerning the safe handling of medications, including CQC regulations.
  • Evidence of developing and implementing medication management policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in training healthcare professionals and NHS staff, both individually and in group settings.
  • Demonstrated technical pharmaceutical and clinical knowledge to optimize the safe and effective use of medications.
  • Significant post-registration experience in various health settings, including primary, secondary, physical health, and mental health.
