Empowering Learning is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Assistant to support our partner Primary schools in Knaresborough. As a Special Needs Assistant, you will work closely with lead teachers to implement educational programs and activities for students with special needs. Your role will involve providing individualized support to students, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, and collaborating with the lead teacher to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the lead teacher in implementing educational programs and activities for students with special needs.
  • Providing individualized support to students, including those with autism.
  • Creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assisting students with daily tasks, such as personal care and hygiene.
  • Supporting students in their academic and social development.
  • Collaborating with the lead teacher to develop and implement IEPs for students.
  • Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to the lead teacher.
  • Assisting with classroom management and behavior management strategies.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs and challenging behaviors.
  • Knowledge of special education practices and strategies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards working with children.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle challenging behaviors.
