About the Role

The Principal Examiner is a key position responsible for maintaining the standards of externally assessed units and ensuring consistency with unit specifications and assessment criteria.

As a Senior Assessment Associate, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and delivery of high-quality assessment materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the standardisation of Examiners and ensure the timely delivery of contracted unit(s)/module(s)/component(s).
  • Update the mark scheme/guidance before the pre-standardisation meeting, taking into account actual candidates' responses and feedback from supervisors/Examiners.
  • Lead meetings such as pre-standardisation and standardisation, and participate in others like appeals against results and post-series reviews.
  • Perform quality assurance activities, including selecting and marking items for validity, and monitoring the progress of supervisors/Examiners.
  • Act as a senior point of escalation across the quality assurance process and provide support across several versions of the paper.
  • Support in awarding activities by writing reports to the Awarding Committee, recommending grade boundaries, and participating in the awarding process.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience and knowledge of quality assurance and assessment practice.
  • A history of moderation and/or marking a regulated qualification.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide and co-ordinate training.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the specification for the specialist sector, including internal and external requirements.
