This role involves facilitating rapid prototyping and iterative development, ensuring efficient production of high-quality prototypes and proof of principle models.
Key Responsibilities:
Workshop Management
- Oversee daily workshop operations, ensuring equipment maintenance and safe usage.
- Manage inventory of materials and tools, ensuring availability and proper storage.
- Implement and maintain health and safety standards, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Identify opportunities to develop workshop and prototyping facilities in line with business strategy and industry trends.
- Arrange training for workshop users and promote best practices.
Prototyping and Fabrication
- Create prototypes, jigs, fixtures, and proof of principle models using various materials and techniques.
- Manage multiple prototyping projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Provide manufacturing support for other business functions as required.
Requirements:
- Experience working in a fast-paced product development environment.
- Proficiency in machine tools and rapid prototyping techniques.
- Experience managing a development workshop.
- Proficient in 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Experience producing components according to GD&T with drawings produced to BS8888/ISO 128.
- Part inspection and measurement techniques.
- Physical assembly and testing of designs.
- Awareness of health and safety practices and creation of risk assessments.
- Knowledge of mass production processes such as injection moulding and die-casting.
- A suitable qualification in Mechanical Engineering, such as HND or BSc/BEng.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
This position requires access to export-controlled information or items. Applicants must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
