Diabetes Specialist Nurse

A unique opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and adaptable Band 7 Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our established Diabetes team within the acute trust tier of our integrated Diabetes service.
The role of the post holder is to cover the weekend service on a Saturday and Sunday between the hours of 08:00-16:00, as well as one weekday from 08:00-16:00, which can be discussed and agreed upon with the diabetes nursing clinical lead.
You will join a team that provides specialist clinical nursing support, advice, and education to patients and their families, working as an effective team member and demonstrating excellent communication skills between the multidisciplinary teams.
The post holder will be adaptable and flexible to meet the challenges of this role, with evidence of recent diabetes clinical practice and experience.
Main Duties- Provide specialist support to inpatients with diabetes, working as an integral member of the diabetes team.
- Initiate and titrate new therapies and initiate and support patients with new diabetes technologies, including Insulin Pumps.
- Participate in nurse-led telephone and email clinics.
- Provide skilled assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of care within defined guidance and protocols.
- Provide expert specialist diabetes education and advice to nurses and other healthcare disciplines across the trust.

Person SpecificationThe post holder will be a registered nurse with NMC registration, holding a post-registration qualification in Diabetes Care or equivalent experience.
They will also hold a teaching and assessing in clinical practice qualification, documented CPD, and a leadership qualification.
Desirable qualifications include Nurse Independent Prescriber (V300) and MSc in Diabetes Care or equivalent experience.
The post holder will have extensive knowledge of diabetes care, management of complex diabetes and diabetes complications, up-to-date knowledge of diabetes technology, including insulin pumps, and knowledge of up-to-date research in diabetes.
They will also have current knowledge of national/local developments in diabetes care and extensive post-registration experience working as a Diabetes Nurse Specialist.
Experience of working autonomously is essential, and the post holder will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and work effectively as part of a team.
