Job Summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Research Practitioner to join our Ophthalmology Research Delivery team.

The successful candidate will lead in all aspects of Ophthalmic Imaging and provide specialist research and clinical care to research participants within the scope of their education and training.

This includes identifying and approaching eligible patients, consenting patients, and supporting the delivery of study interventions and clinical investigations and the data collection required for the individual studies.

The Clinical Research Practitioner will take on the responsibility for managing and coordinating delegated research studies, working closely with the clinical MDT to lead the way to improved care and treatments.

The role involves using many clinical and research IT systems, so computer experience and skills are essential.

The successful candidate will be guided and mentored by our experienced senior research nurses and Allied Health Professionals to develop within their role in providing gold-standard care to our patients.

About the Role

The Clinical Research Practitioner will work to international standards of clinical research governance to deliver complex research, so the ability to understand and implement new information is essential.

The role involves working in a 24/7 service, though most of the time will be spent working Monday to Friday office hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead in all aspects of Ophthalmic Imaging
  • Provide specialist research and clinical care to research participants
  • Manage and coordinate delegated research studies
  • Work closely with the clinical MDT to lead the way to improved care and treatments

Requirements

  • Significant clinical experience, working face to face with patients, in a relevant speciality with proven ability and competence to undertake a range of clinical tasks
  • Recent NHS clinical experience or equivalent
  • Understanding of personal accountability
  • Logical and consistent work and career pattern
  • Interest in Clinical Research
