Job Title: General Ledger Accounting Manager

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Ledger Accounting Manager to join our team at Aviva. As a key member of our UK General Insurance Market team, you will play a crucial role in closing the UKGI books and records, maintaining strong financial controls over the balance sheet, and leading a team of professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 6 people in line with leader expectations and standards.
  • Act as a deputy financial controller for UK General Insurance (Aviva Insurance Limited, Gresham and Ocean Marine).
  • Deliver general ledger close, co-owning with peers.
  • Responsible for the review and approval of journals, data loaders, and controls.
  • Oversight and running of month-end and general ledger close processes.
  • Attend governance meetings, owning actions and queries assigned to your team and ensuring they are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Supporting the resolution of balance sheet reconciliation queries in line with service level agreement.
  • Ensure all risks and issues are managed and captured across the team and adhering to risk and governance minimum standards.
  • Owning key controls and ensuring they are assessed and continually reviewed.
  • Work closely with internal audit teams, and proactively support the external auditing process.
  • Support the Financial Reporting team over key reporting periods, providing disclosures and information to support the preparation of statutory accounts.

Requirements:

  • Experience leading a team and ability to plan and manage team workload and priorities.
  • Qualified accountant or suitable financial experience. Knowledge of IFRS 17 advantageous.
  • Experience of operating strong financial control.
  • Good analytical skills with a curiosity mindset.
  • Strong stakeholder relationship and communication skills.

  • Salary Circa £50,000 (location, skills, experience, and qualifications dependant)
