About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to older adults with communication disorders and dysphagia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, develop, and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment plans for older adults with communication disorders and dysphagia.
  • Provide professional advice to healthcare professionals regarding the management and care of patients with communication and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties.
  • Undertake joint assessments with other Speech and Language Therapists and/or other healthcare professionals within the specialist area of dementia.
  • Communicate condition-related information from assessment to service users, carers, families, and members of the multi-disciplinary team/other healthcare professionals.
  • Work closely with service users, carers, and families, agreeing decision-making relevant to patient/client management.
  • Demonstrate empathy with service users, carers, families, and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.
  • Develop skills in motivating service users and/or carers to engage in the therapeutic process.
  • Manage a dementia caseload that consists of a broad range of presentations.
  • Use knowledge to inform sound clinical judgments/decision making for case management.
  • Promote a client-centered approach that respects the service users' needs and opinions and promotes his or her active participation in any intervention and the decision-making process associated with it.
