Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate clinical psychologist to take a leadership role within our Children's Eating Disorder Service (CEDS), part of Somerset CAMHS, rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This is an ideal time to join us as we evolve our approach to supporting children with eating difficulties, offering the chance to contribute to both clinical practice and broader system change across the South West.

In this role, you will provide clinical leadership to both psychologists and the wider multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that young people and their families receive the highest quality, psychologically informed care. Our strong links with wider CAMHS and partner agencies across the South West, mean you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively and make a real difference.

This is a full-time position with working hours of Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Main Responsibilities

As a clinical psychologist, you will provide direct clinical psychology services to children and young people facing complex disordered eating and related challenges, offering evidence-based interventions for individuals, families, and wider systems.

You will also provide supervision to junior psychologists and other clinical team members. Your expertise will help shape the quality of psychological assessment and therapy within the team, ensuring high standards of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide highly specialist psychological assessments based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex psychological data from a variety of sources, including psychological and neuropsychological tests, personality and risk assessment, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations, and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members, and others involved in the client's care.
  • To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client's mental health and eating issues challenges, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems, and employing methods of proven efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
  • To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family, or group.
  • To undertake risk assessment and guide risk management for individual clients and to provide general advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.
  • To provide a consultancy service to the Children's Social Care, acute paediatric wards, in-patient teams, local community mental health teams, and other agencies and teams, with regard to appropriate referral and treatment options.
Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Doctoral Clinical Psychology qualification or equivalent as accredited by the British Psychology Society (BPS).
  • Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Management training/qualification.
  • Training in neuropsychological and developmental assessment.
  • Relevant post-qualification training in work with eating disorders.
  • Relevant post-qualification training/experience in working with young people.
Experience

Essential
  • Experience of working with clients with complex presentations within CAMHS or similar services.
  • Experience of teaching, training, and/or professional and clinical supervision.
  • Experience and understanding of safeguarding children and relevant legislation and policies.
Desirable
  • Experience of working within CAMHS environment.
  • Experience of service development/project work.
  • Experience of working in multi-agency teams and multi-agency service planning.
  • Significant experience in assessing and managing risk and supporting teams in this process.
  • Knowledge of community resources and systems for children and young people.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC.
  • Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological assessments and therapies for use with young people with complex presentations.
  • Ability to make clinical decisions around complex and emotive issues relating to children/young people and their carers.
  • Full UK driving licence, with access to a vehicle for work purposes.
Desirable
  • Record of publications in peer-reviewed, academic, or professional journals or books.
