The Department for Business and Trade seeks an experienced Energy Transition Manager to lead its Heat Networks team.

About the Role

This role offers a salary of £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience.

As an Energy Transition Manager, you will be responsible for creating and implementing comprehensive operational plans, driving the transition to net zero by developing and implementing technical standards and regulations that protect consumers and ensure accurate heat metering.

You will lead enforcement activities that guarantee industry compliance with legal requirements and provide advice that supports business improvements.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is part of the Department for Business and Trade, and exists to make regulation work to deliver real-world impact. Regulation is a powerful Government tool to address market failures, influence behaviour and promote positive action, and can be an enabler of growth, innovation and efficiency.

What You Will Do

You will:

  • Lead a team of enforcement officers and technical experts in achieving compliance with energy regulations;
  • Contribute directly to the reduction of carbon emissions, the protection of consumers and the promotion of a thriving energy market;
  • Develop and implement technical standards and regulations that protect consumers and ensure accurate heat metering;
  • Provide advice that supports business improvements and empower teams to foster collaboration throughout the OPSS.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A degree or its equivalent in engineering or a related field;
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data, identify trends and inform decision-making;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders;
  • Experience of delivering technical regulations or operational projects in the utilities sector, although not essential, would be advantageous;
  • Ability to travel occasionally to sites throughout Great Britain.
