Job Title: Head of Operational Estates

Salary band 8c - £74,290 - £85,601

Location - York or Scarborough

12 months fixed term contract

We are seeking an experienced leader in estates management to drive the Estates service forward and ensure its hospital environment remains safe, efficient, and patient-focused.

The Estates team is a patient, visitor and staff-driven department focused on delivering a range of high quality, safe Estates services in a cost effective, consistent, and friendly manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the strategic development and operational delivery of the Estates service across all Trust sites.
  • Ensure all planned preventative and reactive maintenance is delivered efficiently and customer focused.
  • Provide expert guidance to ensure statutory and mandatory compliance for all facilities.
  • Oversee estate business continuity plans and emergency response protocols.
  • Collaborate with clinical and technical teams on long-term infrastructure planning and improvements.
Operational Management:
  • Manage and prioritise maintenance schedules, ensuring the smooth operation of all hospital engineering services.
  • Develop and implement a 3- and 5-year maintenance and equipment replacement plan.
  • Ensure emergency situations are effectively managed, maintaining seamless services across the Trust.
Compliance & Performance:

Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation, conducting regular audits and assessments. Performance monitoring will be key, as you work to improve the efficiency of estates services through effective data analysis, benchmarking, and KPIs.

Key skills and experience:

  • Expertise in managing complex engineering and building services, with a strong understanding of NHS regulations.
  • Experience in developing long-term estates plans, including maintenance and compliance strategies.
  • Proven leadership ability, with experience motivating large teams and fostering a culture of high performance.
  • Strong financial management skills, including experience managing budgets, developing business cases, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
