About the Role:
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our team as a Plant Health Specialist. As a key member of our plant health team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the import and export of plants, seeds, and other plant-related materials are compliant with regulations. Your expertise will be essential in maintaining the UK's biosecurity and preventing the spread of pests and diseases.
Key Responsibilities:
• Certify for export produce, plants, machinery, and ware potatoes after examination in accordance with importing country requirements, including issuing phytosanitary certificates and advising exporters on requirements.
• Conduct General Quarantine Surveillance and Specific Annual and Multi-Annual Surveys to monitor for quarantine and non-indigenous pests and diseases.
• Statutory inspection of imported plants, planting material, and plant produce to ensure compliance with import regulations, including physical inspections and documentary checks.
• Soil sampling in connection with regulations made to prevent the spread of dangerous plant pests and diseases.
• Plan and schedule visits, physical inspections, collection, and submission of samples, inputting results, and writing relevant legal notices using a range of IT systems, including Microsoft programs and in-house systems.
• Be available for and involved in emergency measures to control outbreaks of specified quarantine and non-indigenous pests and diseases.
• Complete administrative duties as required in accordance with standard operating procedures and agency guidelines and time frames.
About You:
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a background in science, horticulture, agriculture, or any related field. Your strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or as part of a team will make you an excellent fit for this role. You should have independent access to a car for visiting clients, collecting samples, and carrying equipment. Some client locations and working hours may preclude the use of public transport.
