The principle of policing by consent relies on the trust and confidence that the public has in the police service and the wider law enforcement community. The Professional Standards Department plays a crucial role in maintaining that trust and confidence. It is essential that misconduct and complaints are managed openly and robustly, and corruption is investigated effectively.
The Role & Key Responsibilities
The Professional Standards Department is seeking a volunteer to support with chaperoning officers and staff to and from their appointments at Sussex Police HQ, Lewes. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Meeting the member of staff/officer/witness at reception and chaperoning them until the time of their hearing.
- Taking them to the allocated room.
- Meeting the staff/officer/witness during any scheduled breaks and chaperoning them to an allocated room.
- Meeting the member of staff/officer/witness at the end of the hearing and chaperoning them off the premises.
- Helping with setting up the hearing room.
Please note that the volunteer will not attend the hearing or be given any information regarding the hearing/outcomes.
