Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician Procurement Lead to join our team at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the procurement team and ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of medicines and supplies.

The ideal candidate will have experience in hospital pharmacy services, procurement, and leadership. They will be able to work collaboratively with the senior leadership team and be responsible for the development of our procurement services.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for leading, supporting, and developing the dispensary team at the Redwoods centre. They will be fully supported to develop their leadership and management skills.

Main Responsibilities
  1. To provide technical leadership on procurement in collaboration with the procurement team (Technicians and Pharmacist) across all sites.
  2. Day to day management and leadership of the dispensary staff at Redwoods site.
  3. Effectively communicate with pharmaceutical wholesalers, manufacturers, homecare companies, and external agencies ensuring efficient and cost-effective procurement and supply of medicines.
  4. Communicate with pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals, and external customers on wide range of queries relating to procurement of medicines and homecare including changes to contracts.
  5. To perform the role of an experienced, registered, pharmacy technician including the provision of advice, supervision, mentoring with staff members under their direct line management (all technical staff).
  6. Attend and participate in regional pharmacy procurement meetings and adjudication meetings regarding the tendering of medicines and services.
  7. To lead the local dispensary team in providing a range of pharmacy medicines supply and advice services.

Job Requirements
  1. To provide technical leadership on procurement in collaboration with the procurement team (Technicians and Pharmacist) across all sites to ensure cost-effective procurement of medicine and minimising impact on patient (inpatient and outpatient) due to stock shortages.
  2. The post holder will lead on reporting of key performance indicators for procurement which will be to the Chief Technician on a quarterly basis.
  3. Management of the procurement services for the MPFT Pharmacy, to ensure a prompt, efficient, and accurate supply service (e.g. Purchase orders, budgetary expenditures, and deliveries). To work in conjunction with the Business Intelligence Technician in support of contracts and bids.
  4. Effectively communicate with pharmaceutical wholesalers, manufacturers, homecare companies, and external agencies e.g. CMU, regarding the safe, efficient, and cost-effective procurement and supply of medicines.
  5. Communicate with pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals, and external customers on wide range of queries relating to procurement of medicines and homecare including changes to contracts.
  6. Attend and participate in regional pharmacy procurement meetings and adjudication meetings regarding the tendering of medicines and services.
  7. To lead the local dispensary team in providing a range of pharmacy medicines supply and advice services.
  8. To work collaboratively with other Dispensary Managers to promote a safe and effective service.
  9. To perform the role of an experienced, registered, pharmacy technician including the provision of advice, supervision, mentoring with staff members under their direct line management (all technical staff).
  10. To manage the dispensary services by providing direction to all grades of staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, assistant technical officers, student technicians, and pre-registration pharmacists/technicians whilst they are assigned to the dispensary.
  11. To contribute to the review of dispensary services, to improve efficiency and establish greater integration with Trust services.
  12. To support the training and assessment of staff within dispensary services.
  13. To oversee the management of all technical dispensary staff.
  14. To support the development of clinical technician pharmacy services for the MPFT Pharmacy Department in conjunction with the Chief Technicians.
  15. To provide assurance that the Royal Pharmaceutical Society for hospital pharmacy standards are adhered to.
  16. Developing key performance indicators for feedback to the senior pharmacy team on efficiencies in procurement.
  17. Refer when appropriate to the Procurement Pharmacist, clinical pharmacist, or Deputy Director of Pharmacy all matters relating to medicines procurement that require professional advice or decision making from a pharmacist.
  18. To participate in the pharmacy service out-of-hours provision.
  19. To embrace the Trust values and act as a positive role model for other members of the pharmacy team.
  20. Comply with the standing financial instructions for all financial activity undertaken within the pharmacy.
  21. Authorised signatory for the department for invoicing, off-contract claims, and credits.
  22. To support the operational delivery of the clozapine service and to liaise with stakeholders as needed.
Person Specification
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures for specialist area to degree or equivalent level acquired through training, NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent
  • Nationally recognised accredited checking technician certificate.
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Experience
  • Working as a registered Pharmacy Technician in UK.
  • Hospital Pharmacy experience
  • Experience in managing pharmacy technicians and support staff.
  • Experience of mental health or physical health hospital pharmacy service delivery.
  • Experience in dealing with discipline and performance management
  • Experience in dealing with short- and long-term staff sickness
  • Experience in service development and implementation of new policies/services
  • Experience in leading project management
  • Procurement CIPS Training.
