Housing Needs Officer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Housing Needs Officer to join our team at RSR Housing, a public safety, housing & enterprise security recruitment specialist. As a Housing Needs Officer, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality housing advice and support services to customers, ensuring their needs are met and expectations managed.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert housing advice and support services to customers, ensuring their needs are met and expectations managed.
  • Ensure all procedures and policies are adhered to, and working instructions for the Housing Options Service comply with LA policies and procedures.
  • Act as an initial escalation point for the resolution of unusual situations, providing advice and guidance to Assistant Housing Needs Officers.
  • Answer customer enquiries, face-to-face, in writing, or by telephone, to resolve problems raised.
  • Support managers, including at meetings, through the provision of diary management, minute-taking, or note-taking as requested.
  • Interview and/or visit customers, assist with the completion of lettings, referrals, applications, and forms to meet their housing needs. Monitor, case manage, and move-on residents in all types of temporary accommodation.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and internal and external partners regarding individual cases and generic questions regarding housing need. Deal with customers that occasionally present challenging behavior.
  • Assist in the allocation of property, calculation of rent arrears, and the provision of welfare benefit advice.
Essential Requirements:
  • Experience of housing support.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to apply these through a range of media to internal and external audiences with differing needs.
  • Ability to ensure customers receive a focused approach to meeting their housing needs by assisting with the completion of forms and referrals and recommending a decision to the Senior Housing Needs Officer.
  • Clerical experience, including filing, maintaining confidential paperwork, setting up and maintaining records, systems, and office equipment. Experience of compiling and typing letters and reports, telephone calls, etc.

This role will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check, and the successful individual will be required to obtain and maintain these clearances.
