Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Wood Digital Consulting (DC) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Northampton. The successful candidate will provide cost-effective, accurate, and professional mechanical engineering services for special purpose machinery and consultancy.
Key Responsibilities:- Expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD software, including Solid Works
- Participate in a multi-disciplined team to provide innovative concepts and designs for automation solutions in various industries, including Automotive, Pharmaceutical, Food & Beverage, Logistics, and Nuclear
- Maintain non-conformance in mechanical design to the minimum possible level
- Contribute cost-effective machine design techniques and standards gained from previous experience to the Wood design department
- Have a good understanding of the Machinery Directive, Risk Assessments, and Regulatory marking of machinery
- Follow drawing control and standards with emphasis on standard parts and design methodology across the mechanical engineering function
- Detail design and geometric tolerancing of all component drawings
- Conduct FMEA and Risk Assessments for internal and external analysis
- Generate innovative low-risk concepts for sales inquiries utilizing 3D CAD techniques and system descriptions to the highest level and assist in the selling process
- Educated to HNC / Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent extensive post-graduate experience working in a machinery design environment
- Extensive Solid Works experience
- Experience in the production of assembly drawings and build packs for workshop build
- Good mechanical materials knowledge
- Ability to design to high precision with tight tolerancing
- Expert knowledge of geometric tolerancing and its application to build packs and machining drawings
- High level of knowledge in the design of special purpose machinery from basic conveying equipment to complex precision tooling
- Design to cost as agreed and detailed in the project overview costings
- Value analysis and value engineering as ongoing principles of the design process
- Generation of technical manuals and recommending spare parts as required
