Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a Christchurch school. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), SEN, or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) and be passionate about making a difference in their lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support for students with SEN, working alongside the class teacher to address learning challenges and promote their academic and personal growth.
  • Assist in delivering learning activities and classroom management, supporting the class teacher in preparing and delivering lessons, while ensuring effective classroom management for a positive learning environment.
  • Foster positive relationships with students by building strong, trusting connections to encourage participation and promote social and emotional development.
  • Contribute to maintaining an inclusive and safe learning environment, ensuring that the classroom remains welcoming, supportive, and safe for all students, where everyone feels valued and respected.
  • Assist students in developing their independence and confidence, supporting their growth and encouraging them to take ownership of their learning.
  • Collaborate with the SEN team to monitor and track students' progress, working closely with colleagues to assess students' academic and personal growth, and offering support as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Experience in working with students with ASD, SEN, or SEMH is essential.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
