Origin Sciences is a medical technology company that specializes in developing innovative devices and in vitro diagnostic (IVD) tests to aid in the detection and diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases.
The company's primary focus is on developing diagnostic solutions for colorectal cancer (CRC) detection, triage, and surveillance. This involves reducing waiting times, enabling earlier detection, and minimizing unnecessary investigations on healthy patients.
The RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated scientist with strong experience in basic molecular biology techniques, such as PCR/qPCR, and the extraction, quantification, and analysis of genetic material. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a solid background in molecular biology to take a key role in supporting projects leading to the development of diagnostic assays.
The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and have the ability to work flexibly. As our company is in its early stages, there are opportunities for growth and development as we expand and evolve.
Main Responsibilities- Perform DNA/RNA extractions and execute and validate qPCR and next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays.
- Manage biobank and clinical sample storage, prepare buffer solutions, and ensure accountability for time, cost, and quality of deliverables.
- Contribute to collaborative projects with external partners, write standard operating procedures and scientific reports, and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Handle and process human samples, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a BSc/MSc in Genetics, Epigenetics, Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry (or equivalent experience).
- A minimum of 2 years of scientific research experience, with excellent understanding of molecular biology techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail, recordkeeping, and ability to critically evaluate data.
- Proficiency in time management, multitasking, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Good organizational skills and strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience working with clinical samples, next-generation sequencing library preparation, and epigenetics assay development.
- Expertise in working in a regulated environment, such as Good Clinical Practice, ISO 13485, or other GxP.
- 25 days of holiday (excluding bank holidays)
- Pension contribution
