Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon to join our team at Pinderfields Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a comprehensive acute and elective Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service, with a sub-specialist interest in the management of skin cancer and the development of a sentinel lymph node biopsy service and Mohs micrographic surgical service.

The post holder will be expected to work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive acute and elective Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service, including delivery of outpatient clinics, elective inpatient and day case surgery in Pinderfields General Hospital, Dewsbury and District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary. The post holder will also be responsible for urgent and emergency care duties, including out of hours on call working within the provisions of working time regulations and safe working.

The successful candidate will be a core member of the skin MDT in conjunction with Plastic Surgery, Dermatology and Histopathology, and will participate in teaching, training and audit, educational and clinical supervision of core trainees and specialist registrars. The post holder will also be responsible for providing advice and support to the clinical team and peers in a range of clinical and/or leadership situations.

About the Role

This is a full-time (10 PA) post, although less than full-time or job share applications will be considered. The post has been created to support the existing consultants and specialists in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and to continue to develop the skin cancer service. The post holder will be based primarily at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, but will also work at our other hospital sites in Dewsbury and District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary.

The department provides secretarial support and office accommodation, and the post holder will be expected to work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive acute and elective Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with a sub-specialist interest in skin cancer. They will have experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and will be able to provide advice and support to colleagues in a range of clinical and/or leadership situations.

The post holder will be a member of the GMC Specialist List for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and will have evidence of post CCT experience/qualifications in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. They will also have a strong commitment to teaching, training and audit, and will be able to participate in educational and clinical supervision of core trainees and specialist registrars.
