Charles Taylor Adjusting handles complex marine losses for shipowners worldwide. Our team of Marine Engineers, Average Adjusters, and Claims Handlers provide expert advice on all levels of loss, including Hull & Machinery and General Average.

The Role

As a Marine Engineer Advisor at Charles Taylor, you will work closely with our Average Adjusters and Claims Handlers to provide in-house technical advice on marine engineering issues. Your expertise will be crucial in carrying out desktop reviews and damage investigations relating to ship hull & machinery, yacht, and other marine industry issues.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in marine engineering, with experience in machinery failure and a keen interest in technical failure investigations. You will be physically able to attend site, including boarding ships, and able to travel worldwide at short notice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical advice on the nature, extent, and cause of damage on all damage types.
  • Travel at short notice to perform onsite surveys as requested by RHL/CTA.
  • Review repair accounts and provide independent cost approvals.
  • Chair technical meetings with superintendents, repairers, and insurers as required.
  • Act as a technical umpire in times of impasse between insurer and shipowner.
  • Prepare technical reports in English, written with the non-technical reader in mind.
  • Provide peer review of other marine engineers' findings and reports.
  • Carry out and assist with business development and marketing activities.
  • Provide technical presentations to adjusting teams and clients worldwide.
Requirements

We are looking for a Marine Engineer with the following qualifications:

  • Preferably a HND or similar educational qualification related to marine engineering.
  • Ex-seagoing marine engineer up to Second Engineer or equivalent.
  • Working towards or registered IEng/CEng with IMarEST.
  • Good understanding of engineering failures and required repairs.
  • Physically able to attend site and able to travel worldwide at short notice.
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken.
