Specialty Doctor in an Older Persons Inpatient Service

An exciting opportunity to work as a Specialty Doctor in a dynamic inpatient service. The post involves a split role between two wards at Monwearmouth hospital, providing a diverse and challenging experience for the successful candidate.

Main Responsibilities

You will be responsible for providing input into assessment and treatment of patients on the unit under the supervision of the consultant psychiatrist. Your duties will include:

  • Assessment and treatment of patients referred to the service
  • Contributing to service improvements and development
  • Preparing reports for mental health review tribunals and managers hearings

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the consultant psychiatrist, ward manager, and other colleagues to drive service improvements and development.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered before appointment) with a licence to practice
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
  • Approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983
Requirements

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 4 years full-time postgraduate training, including 2 years work experience in psychiatry. They will also have experience of multidisciplinary team working, wide clinical experience in psychiatry, and experience in service management or development.

The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, have high-level clinical skills, and be able to contribute to the ongoing training and development programme within the team.
