Job Description

The Church of England is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Canon Precentor to join our team. As a key member of our cathedral community, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and developing our liturgical and pastoral ministries.

Main Responsibilities
  • Chapter and Liturgical Leadership: The Canon Precentor will play a full role as a member of Chapter and serve on specific committees as required. This will involve attending monthly Chapter meetings and weekly Dean's Executive and Senior Management Team meetings.
  • Worship and Liturgy: The Canon Precentor will be responsible for all aspects of the worshipping and liturgical life of the cathedral, including planning, preparing, and overseeing services. This will involve collaborating with others to develop new liturgies and ensuring that all necessary administration is delivered with a high standard of accuracy and in good time.
  • Pastoral Care and Support: The Canon Precentor will share in the pastoral work of the cathedral, including occasional offices, and will be responsible for offering pastoral, spiritual, and educational support to members of the congregation.
  • Community Engagement: The Canon Precentor will support the engagement of the cathedral with its parish, the diocese, and the city, including developing new liturgies to reflect the diversity of the city region.
Requirements
  • Ordination in the Church of England for at least six years
  • Experience in liturgical and pastoral leadership
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
