About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Network Performance Engineer to join our Transmission Network team. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in conducting specialist power system studies and analysis to assess various aspects of existing and emerging network operability risks.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Analyse existing and emerging network operability and stability risks related to e.g. reducing system strength, harmonics, sub-synchronous oscillation and interaction, wider interaction between connected plant and the response of the network to disturbances.
  2. Identify, design, develop solutions/mitigation to manage and minimise operational/operability risks or network performance problems.
  3. Develop, implement and maintain processes, policies and standards to manage network operability risks.
  4. Monitor the performance of the network to identify and manage emerging risks/issues.
  5. Assist with the successful connection and integration of equipment that may pose a wider operability risk, such as HVDC links, static and dynamic reactive compensation equipment.
  6. Support other teams in Transmission and Engineering Design on operability and interaction issues.
Requirements
  1. A degree in Electrical Engineering with a higher degree in a relevant subject area and/or relevant industrial design experience.
  2. Experience in power systems, power system analysis and design.
  3. A good understanding of the response of power systems to disturbances and interaction mechanisms such as SSTI, control system interactions or other resonant conditions.
  4. Experience in the design, development or delivery of transmission network projects.
  5. Working knowledge of the GB SQSS, Grid Code and STC.
  6. Good communication skills with the ability to write clear reports and present complex technical matters to a non-technical audience.
  7. Chartered membership of the IET or working towards this.
  8. Knowledge of the regulatory environment.
