Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Performance Lead to join our team at ScottishPower. As a key member of our Transmission Network team, you will play a pivotal role in conducting specialist power system studies and analysis to assess various aspects of existing and emerging network operability risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing and emerging network operability and stability risks related to e.g. reducing system strength, harmonics, sub-synchronous oscillation and interaction, wider interaction between connected plant and the response of the network to disturbances, to ensure that the network continues to perform within license requirements.
  • Identify, design, develop solutions/mitigation to manage and minimize operational/operability risks or network performance problems.
  • Develop, implement and maintain processes, policies and standards to manage network operability risks.
  • Monitor the performance of the network to identify and manage emerging risks/issues.
  • Assist with the successful connection and integration of equipment that may pose a wider operability risk, such as HVDC links, static and dynamic reactive compensation equipment, by providing project support during the design, specification, tendering and delivery of such projects.
  • Support other teams in Transmission and Engineering Design on operability and interaction issues.
  • Work with academic institutions, industry bodies/forums, Ofgem, the ESO, other TOs and stakeholders with the aim of understanding and minimizing network risks.

Requirements

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering with a higher degree in a relevant subject area and/or relevant industrial design experience.
  • Experience in power systems, power system analysis and design.
  • A good understanding of the response of power systems to disturbances and interaction mechanisms such as SSTI, control system interactions or other resonant conditions.
  • Experience in the design, development or delivery of transmission network projects.
  • Working knowledge of the GB SQSS, Grid Code and STC.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to write clear reports and present complex technical matters to a non-technical audience.
  • Chartered membership of the IET or working towards this.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment.
