Job Title: Safe Ride Driver/Dispatcher

Job Summary:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safe Ride Driver/Dispatcher to join our team. As a key member of our Transportation and Parking Services Department, you will be responsible for providing safe transportation for the University community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dispatch drivers promptly and effectively to assigned locations.
  • Provide safe vehicle transport for students, staff, faculty, and guests of the University.
  • Operate a multi-line telephone, tablet computer, 2-way radio, and/or mobile telephones.
  • Interpret and follow established parking regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Accurately and legibly complete routine forms and reports.
  • Respond quickly using sound judgment to make appropriate decisions in stressful situations.

Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia Motor Vehicle laws.
  • Some knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to motor vehicle operation.
  • Some knowledge of the proper procedures for operating and inspecting motor vehicles prior to their use.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Navigational skills to read a map to locate addresses within designated service area.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn the names and locations of buildings, the streets and addresses within the Safe Ride service area.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the public promoting a positive image of the University and resolving customer service issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of MS Office or related software.
  • Demonstrated ability to use automated dispatch software.

Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to sit in a vehicle for extended periods of time.
