Environmental Sustainability Manager

A leading tier 1 contractor in the civil engineering and infrastructure sectors is seeking a highly skilled Senior Environmental Professional to oversee projects across London and the South East. Based out of offices in either Watford or London, you will be responsible for driving best practice environmental performance and improving the sustainability of projects. The company's ambition is to help shape a sustainable world through focusing on three main areas:
- Acting for the climate
- Optimising resources through circular economy
- Preserving natural environments
The role includes highway schemes (minor and major), urban realm projects as well as work in the energy sector. You will be responsible for:
- Initiating and maintaining systems to review and monitor compliance with BS EN ISO 14001 and other company/divisional standards.
- Managing and overseeing monitoring equipment, collecting, processing and interpreting data (e.g. water, dust, noise, waste).
- Managing onsite Environmental Site inspections, highlighting any bad and good practices to the relevant teams and Senior Management.
- Ensuring that the Project Environmental Management System is implemented and operated on site through a programme of checking and auditing.
- Recording and reporting all incidents to all relevant parties and instigating any corrective actions required.
- Preparing monthly environmental reports for the project, including completion of company/client and divisional reporting systems data systems.
- Regularly reporting progress (including achievements) against environmental compliance and environmental targets to the whole team.
- Developing robust and comprehensive mitigation measures to deal with environmental risks, working collaboratively with the production team.
- Producing, reviewing and updating the Project Environmental Management Plan - EMP (and associated plans) on a regular basis.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and client representatives to ensure collaborative working relationships.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree/MSc (or equivalent) in a relevant environmental discipline, broad knowledge of all aspects of environmental design and works and impacts on 3rd parties, experience of consents and environmental permits, discharge licences, strong understanding of Net Zero, including understanding of Scope 3 carbon emissions, knowledge of relevant UK Environment legislation and current best practice guidance, Member of IEMA, ideally chartered or working towards chartered status, an understanding of ecological impacts, salary circa £65,000 plus car / car allowance and package.
