About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Sister/Charge Nurse to join our team at The Christie NHS FT. As a key member of our chemotherapy outreach service, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in the comfort of patients' own homes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Leadership
    • Assess the needs of patients and families, ensuring provision of client-centered care that focuses on promoting health as well as managing illness.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of patient care, in accordance with hospital policies and standards.
    • Assess educational and informational needs of patients and families, providing up-to-date information to enable them to participate in the planning of care.
    • Enhance care by using relevant research outcomes when planning and delivering nursing care.
    • Evaluate nursing care and inform senior staff of patients' changing healthcare needs.
  • Professional Development
    • In consultation with the Senior Sister, agree learning objectives designed to meet the goals of personal and professional development and undergo appropriate programs of study.
    • Gain teaching skills by undertaking a teaching and assessing course and applying the principles in the clinical setting.
    • Accept responsibility to develop managerial skills within the clinical setting, planning duty rotas that match needs with available expertise.
  • Managerial
    • In the absence of the Senior Sister, ensure staffing numbers and skill mix are appropriate to clinical needs and keep senior nurse managers aware of pertinent issues in the clinical area.
    • Foster a supportive working environment and maintain staff morale, promoting a culture in which staff feel valued and able to reach their potential.
    • Act as a preceptor/mentor to new staff and pre- and post-registered nurses.
    • Work with the Senior Sister to ensure clinical standards of care are achieved and participate in audit of clinical care.
  • Education
    • Maintain awareness of current nursing practice and use relevant educational opportunities to maintain the highest standards and up-to-date care offered to patients with cancer.
    • Supervise clinical staff and disseminate knowledge and current developments.
    • Participate in planned programs of appraisal with the Senior Sister.
Person Specification
  • Qualifications
    • RGN Level 1 or 2
    • Degree or Diploma in Nursing Studies
  • Desirable
    • Management Course
    • Post-Registration Certificate in Cancer or equivalent
    • UKKONS SACT Passport or equivalent
  • Experience
    • Experience in a relevant specialty
    • Leadership experience or similar
  • Skills
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to deliver a high quality of care
    • Work as a team leader
  • Knowledge
    • Committed to own personal professional development and that of staff nurses and HCA's
  • Other
    • Flexible working - May require to help other area of Service if required
    • Participate in internal rotation as required
    • Clean driving license
