Archaeological Site Monitoring Role

We're seeking a skilled professional to join our team as an Archaeological Site Monitor. In this role, you'll work closely with regional archaeologists to recruit, train, and support teams of volunteers carrying out site monitoring and conservation work. You'll be responsible for managing, updating, and using the Historic Buildings Sites and Monuments Record (HBSMR) to produce maps and documentation suitable for volunteer use.

You'll work with ARCGIS online and field-maps to roll out a digital model across the region, input, analyze, and prioritize data resulting from the monitoring work. You'll also support volunteer recruitment, liaising with volunteers and property teams, and communicate the value of the work we do more widely within the Trust, running webinars, producing newsletters, and updates.



Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and update the Historic Buildings Sites and Monuments Record (HBSMR)
  • Work with ARCGIS online and field-maps to roll out a digital model across the region
  • Input, analyze, and prioritize data resulting from the monitoring work
  • Support volunteer recruitment and liaison with volunteers and property teams
  • Communicate the value of the work we do more widely within the Trust


Requirements

  • Good knowledge and experience using GIS and databases such as HBSMR and HER
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Knowledge and understanding of landscape archaeology
  • Skilled communicator, able to build strong relationships within diverse teams
  • Flexible thinker and problem-solver, skilled at negotiating and building productive networks
