About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile engineer to join our team at the University of Bristol. As an Electrical and Electronics Design Engineer or Senior Electrical and Electronics Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting a diverse range of projects across our faculty.

As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on various tasks across electrical, electronic, and mechanical domains, collaborating closely with undergraduates, researchers, and faculty staff. We are looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and build equipment from concepts to completion, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and University procedures.
  • Install equipment both electrically and mechanically as required.
  • Operate, service, maintain, and calibrate workshop equipment, including soldering irons, hand and power tools, multimeters, PAT testers, and specialist equipment.
  • Diagnose and rectify basic electrical/electronic problems to find short and long-term solutions.
  • Provide assistance and training to students and researchers in their projects or experiments.
Additional Responsibilities for Senior Electrical and Electronics Engineer
  • Assist in defining and managing standards, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Train and support other team members in electrical, electronic, and mechanical domains.
Requirements
  • Broad expertise in electrical, analogue, and digital electronics, data acquisition, and micro-processing.
  • Regulatory understanding and ability to follow and apply industry standards and codes of practice.
  • IT proficiency and expert skills in relevant specialist software.
  • Exceptional organisation and ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Creative problem-solving and experience in devising, reviewing, and delivering complex solutions.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate outputs.
  • Extensive expertise in electrical, analogue, and digital electronics, data acquisition, and micro-processing.
  • Regulatory understanding and ability to translate regulatory requirements into internal standard practices.
  • Safety experience and ability to write risk assessments and safe operating procedures.

Please note that the H Grade role is internally recognised as a Level 2 Specialist Technician, while the I Grade role is recognised as a Level 1 Technical Specialist.

We expect the successful candidate to work primarily on-site, but there may be some flexibility for hybrid work arrangements.
