Job Title: Digital Electronic Design Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Electronic Design Engineer to join our team at The Electronics Group. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing electronic SONAR products in line with target product specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and develop electronic SONAR products, including creation of schematics and multi-layer PCB designs, verified by electronic modeling and simulation.
  2. Test and debug existing systems, conducting design reviews at key stages of design and development.
  3. Collaborate with the design team, submitting designs for review and providing peer review input to other engineers' designs.
  4. Produce and maintain product documentation, including detailed BoMs, Gerbers, and fabrication and engineering drawings.
  5. Perform new product evaluations and reviews, including acoustic measurements to ensure that products meet or exceed specifications.
  6. Collaborate across all teams within the company, including Procurement, Manufacturing, Test, and Quality.
  7. Provide technical product support to staff and worldwide customers, including occasional travel within the UK and overseas.

Requirements:

  1. Degree or equivalent qualifications in electrical and electronic engineering.
  2. A minimum of 3 years' experience designing electronics products and embedded PC systems.
  3. Design and testing mixed signal products that include SOC, FPGA's, control and logic systems, switching power supplies, analogue amplifiers, isolated systems, and transducer power driver stages.

Desirable Skills:

  1. C/C++, VHDL, and associated tools such as GIT.
  2. Altium Designer (schematic, PCB, component generation, SPICE simulation).
  3. Communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, Ethernet, IP (TCP/UDP/ICMP), RS-232, JTAG, NMEA, both at the low level and high level.
  4. MATLAB for signal processing.
  5. Digital data acquisition systems and DSP techniques (down-sampling, mixing, various filter types, etc.).
  6. Laboratory test equipment including, but not limited to, Logic Analysers, Oscilloscopes, Power Analysers, Spectrum Analysers, Active Loads, Multi-meters, Hot air and Through Hole assembly and repair tools.
