Investment Consultant Role

Our Investment DB Business Unit is a key component of our consulting services, helping us establish a strong presence in the UK market. We advise on over £200 billion of assets for our diverse client base, including DB pension trustees and sponsors across various sectors, local government pension schemes (LGPS), and other public sector clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct high-quality research analysis and communicate investment advice to a wide range of clients, primarily focusing on LGPS clients.
  • Review and sign off investment advice on various topics, including investment strategy, structure, investment markets, risk management, asset managers, responsible investment, and governance.
  • Direct and advise a portfolio of predominantly LGPS clients on investment matters.
  • Deliver high-quality, expert investment advice using strategic and innovative solutions.
  • Develop business for the firm through client prospecting, relationship building, and supporting new business pitches, collaborating with other areas of the firm for cross-selling.
  • Build and enhance the Business Unit and firm's profile through networking and speaking at relevant conferences.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members, including investment analysts within client teams, to develop consulting capabilities.
  • Contribute to internal initiatives, such as Quality Assurance and Learning and Development programs.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a similar role in a consultancy environment, fund management, or other relevant investment sector with some exposure to working with LGPS clients.
  • FFA/CFA qualification (or close to achieving it) and authorization to give investment advice by the FCA (or alternative qualification/experience).
  • Strong commercial awareness of the pensions and employee benefits market, with the ability to keep up-to-date with topical matters in the UK Pensions Market.
  • Experience in consulting with clients on responsible investment issues, with some knowledge of collective investment vehicles.
  • Detailed understanding of major asset classes used in UK Pension Scheme Strategies and the legislative framework for UK pension schemes.
  • Exceptional communication skills, demonstrated through ability to consult and influence successfully with stakeholders at senior/board level.
  • Flexible, innovative approach to developing solutions for clients and enthusiasm for solving complex problems.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, lead by example, and support the coaching and development of junior colleagues.
  • Articulate complex ideas and develop them into tangible offerings.
  • Look out for Business Development and intra/inter-practice referral opportunities as appropriate.
  • Flexibility to travel to client and other Hymans Robertson offices when required.
