Financial Accountant

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our team at UK Research and Innovation. As a key member of our Finance Team, you will be responsible for the financial management of all projects within specific science and support areas.
Key Responsibilities- Reconcile control accounts, review revenue generation, and provide financial analysis and advice to the BGS Finance and Project Support Teams.
- Use a Business Partnering approach to provide a financial service, including advice, reporting, and guidance to BGS Chief Scientists/Directors, Programme Managers, and Project Managers.
- Provide financial input on an ad-hoc basis, including corporate and external reports and audits.
- Report on specific projects to required timescales, working closely with auditors as required.
- Work as part of the BGS Finance Team, including input into financial exercises for business planning, outturn, and year-end accounts.
- May be required to deputise for the Senior Financial Accountant.
- Undertake revenue calculations adhering to relevant financial standards.
- Provide specialist support and knowledge to BGS colleagues in a key policy or knowledge area.
- Become involved in cross-BGS projects or working groups.
We are looking for a highly skilled individual with a strong background in finance, preferably with a qualification in accounting (CCAB or CIMA) or significant relevant finance experience. You should have excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain and present financial information in an understandable way to non-finance professionals.
You will have experience of working within a complex financial environment, with an appreciation of project accounting. You should also have a good working knowledge of basic financial accounting functions, such as accruals, prepayments, debits, and credits, as well as control accounts.
You will be able to manage work and meet tight timescales, adapt to regularly changing priorities, and work unsupervised and under your own initiative to problem-solve and identify solutions.
