The Emerald Group is seeking a skilled Catastrophe Risk Analyst to join their Japan Analytics team in London. As part of this team, the successful candidate will provide clients with expert advice on their exposures to natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, and floods.

  • Key responsibilities:
  • Provide technical solutions in a digestible manner to both internal and external stakeholders at client / reinsurer meetings
  • Run client portfolios through natural catastrophe models to quantify the likelihood and severity of natural catastrophes for client renewals
  • Undertake sensitivity testing to help clients understand the impact of data quality, data and modelling assumptions, and any planned portfolio changes

Requirements:

  • BA/BSc or higher qualification in finance, statistics, geography, science, or equivalent
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office suites (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint)
  • Catastrophe modelling experience with vendor models (RMS, Verisk, CoreLogic)
  • Programming in SQL, R, or Python
  • Experience with GIS
  • Understanding of the science of natural catastrophes and ability to validate and interpret modelled loss estimates
