We are seeking an experienced and skilled Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse to join our team in the Children's Surgical Ward at The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton.
The Royal Alexandra is a dedicated children's hospital located in Brighton, overlooking the sea, next to the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Our Children's Surgical Ward has 12 funded beds and takes children under a range of specialties, including ENT, general surgery, orthopaedics, and maxillofacial surgery. We are a tertiary surgical centre, undertaking both emergency and elective procedures on patients between the ages of 0-17 years.
Key Responsibilities:- To support the ward manager in providing effective clinical leadership, ensuring quality patient care.
- To act as an expert for the care of a specified group of patients, providing effective leadership and acting as a positive role model.
- To undertake training in venepuncture, cannulation, and administration of intravenous therapy, and to become an assessor for other staff in the department.
- To work with the Ward Manager to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- To ensure that all patients have a plan of care that is individualised and evidence-based, in line with local policies and procedures.
- To ensure that admissions, transfers, and discharges are planned in accordance with Trust policy, liaising effectively with partner agencies to ensure the best outcome for the patient.
- To be responsible for ensuring adherence to safeguarding protocols within clinical practice.
Successful applicants will need to have recent experience of caring for children undergoing surgery and be competent and comfortable in all areas of surgical care. Ideally, they will have some shift leading experience.
