Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Democratic Services Officer to join our team at Kent County Council. As a key member of our Democratic Services team, you will play a vital role in facilitating local democracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organise and support the Council's committee meetings, ensuring all statutory and constitutional requirements are met.
  • Provide governance advice to Members and Officers across the council.
  • Maintain the committees' work programme and prepare agendas, reports, and minutes.
  • Support the organisation of public committee meetings and provide advice to officers and members.

Requirements

  • A sound understanding of local government.
  • Confidence and political sensitivity in dealing with elected members and senior officers.
  • Experience of committee clerking and office administration.
  • An excellent standard of written English.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure.

Working Arrangements

The team currently operates a hybrid model of working, with some days in the office and some days working from home. You will be fully supported to do this, with the necessary induction, management, and equipment. You will be required to come into Sessions House, Maidstone, to clerk Committee meetings as and when required, and there may also be occasions where you need to travel to external meetings.
