Democratic Services Officer

Kent County Council is seeking a highly organised and experienced Democratic Services Officer to join their team. This role offers the opportunity to work at the heart of local government, facilitating democracy and supporting the council's committee meetings.
About the RoleThis is a dynamic and challenging position that requires strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and excellent written communication abilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Preparing agendas, reports, and minutes for public committee meetings
- Providing advice and guidance to officers and members on governance matters
- Maintaining the committees' work programme and ensuring statutory and constitutional requirements are met
The ideal candidate will have a sound understanding of local government, confidence in dealing with elected members and senior officers, and experience in committee clerking and office administration.
What We OfferKent County Council offers a competitive salary of £28,255 - £30,492 per annum (dependent on experience), plus a range of benefits including flexible working arrangements, opportunities for professional development, and a commitment to work-life balance.
The council operates a hybrid model of working, with some days spent in the office and others working from home. While some travel may be required, the council provides full support for remote working, including necessary induction, management, and equipment.
Required Skills and QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you will need:
- A degree or equivalent experience in a related field
- Strong administrative and organisational skills
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Competency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams
