About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a Community Advocate. This is an exciting opportunity to work with our Community Development Team to improve responses to the mental health needs of Black, Brown, and other racialised Communities within Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and North Somerset.

The successful candidate will work closely with our CAMHS Senior Management Team to deliver a programme of work that supports the development of culturally sensitive, inclusive, and fair services across CAMHS. This will involve working with ethnically diverse communities, statutory providers, voluntary and independent organisations to support the development and provision of an integrated service that brings together opportunities for improving children and young people's mental health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve access to CAMHS services for ethnically diverse communities.
  • Work with community groups and stakeholders to co-produce mental health awareness and access initiatives.
  • Facilitate positive collaborative partnerships with diverse community groups and local statutory, voluntary and independent organisations.
  • Support staff learning and development to develop their skills and knowledge in working with ethnically diverse communities.
  • Contribute to the development of local services that meet the needs of ethnically diverse communities.
Requirements
  • Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Work, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner or equivalent professional qualification in Mental Health or psychological interventions with CAMHS.
  • Formal postgraduate diploma level qualification in a relevant field and knowledge of mental health.
  • Substantial experience of CAMHS gained through working with children and young people.
  • Evidence of recent professional development.
  • Ability to work with ethnically diverse communities and of working across different sectors to deliver community engagement and development, and involvement strategies/initiatives.
  • Networking and liaising with multiple agencies.
  • Awareness of local inequalities and the impact of inequalities faced by ethnically diverse community groups in relation to Mental Health.
  • Ability to challenge discrimination and inequities in order to enable service change within CAMHS, alongside an ability to influence Senior leadership in service development and equity.
