Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Staff Nurse to join our Critical Care Unit. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care to patients with complex medical needs.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assess and plan the delivery of patient care, implementing and evaluating care using an appropriate nursing model.
  • Undertake the introduction to Critical Care work base module, gaining 30 credits at level 6 (degree level) or level 7 (MSc level).
  • Carry out nursing responsibilities with high standards of care, adhering to Trust Policies, Practice, and Clinical Guidelines, and National Critical Care guidance.
  • Ensure comprehensive and up-to-date documentation reflects nursing care and interventions given to patients.
  • Embody the philosophy of the multi-disciplinary team, fostering effective working relationships.
  • Undertake internal rotation and practice evidence-based clinical nursing, justifying all nursing interventions.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in safe working order, demonstrating competence in its use.
  • Promote psychological care and rehabilitation of critically ill patients, utilizing patient diaries and increased awareness of critical care follow-up.
  • Report incidents, accidents, and complaints promptly, providing necessary documentation and evidence.

Team Working and Communication

  • Communicate daily with patients, relatives, and carers, ensuring they are informed of nursing goals and medical objectives, and involved in decision-making.
  • Provide support for relatives and patients in a sensitive and respectful manner.
  • Exhibit thorough awareness of patient activity in the entire unit, informing the shift co-ordinator of any activity affecting patient care.
  • Actively participate in the education of learners allocated to the ward, supervising clinical skills and conducting teaching.
  • Maintain a dynamic learning environment within the ward, distributing up-to-date information on nursing practice and developments.
  • Promote effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.

Professional Development

  • Be responsible for own professional development and updating, reading the nursing press, attending relevant courses, and constructing a personal development plan with the Line Manager.
  • Ensure all professional performance is underpinned by NMC documents, Code of Professional Conduct, and Revalidation.
  • Acquire new skills and knowledge to expand nursing practice.
  • Familiarize yourself with local policies, protocols, and guidelines.
