About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our Pen Underwriting Risk Managed Commercial team in Northern Ireland. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for underwriting and servicing both new and existing accounts, utilizing your expertise and industry knowledge to evaluate new business opportunities and make sound judgments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite and service new and existing accounts, ensuring accurate and timely decisions.
  • Evaluate new business opportunities, considering risk exposure and acceptance criteria.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the coverage provided by Pen and operate within agreed personal delegated underwriting authority.
  • Provide technical training and development to junior team members, sharing your expertise and knowledge.
  • Compile and provide statistics, interpreting data and explaining it to others to contribute to our overall understanding and decision-making.
About You
  • CII/Dip CII qualification, educated to A-Level standard or equivalent.
  • A firm grasp of risk exposure, with the ability to determine acceptance criteria and risk classifications in complex or unfamiliar situations.
  • Underwriting experience in servicing accounts, utilizing specialist technical knowledge to handle claim queries and provide a connected service.
  • The ability to extract and piece together required learning from various opportunities and sources.
  • Experience in planning and prioritizing client renewals and seeking new business opportunities.
  • Strong, proactive communication and social skills with clients and colleagues.
  • A good level of numeracy and literacy, coupled with excellent attention to detail.
  • An analytical problem-solving approach with initiative and a 'can do' attitude.
  • An insightful, ambitious, and willing teammate who takes ownership and accountability, and is keen to share expertise.
  • Strong trading and negotiation skills, ensuring excellent outcomes for customers, brokers, Pen, and insurers.
