About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our Pen Underwriting Risk Managed Commercial team. As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting and servicing both new and existing accounts, utilizing your expertise and industry knowledge to evaluate new business opportunities and make sound judgments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite and service new and existing accounts
  • Evaluate new business opportunities and make sound judgments
  • Maintain and grow a renewal portfolio
  • Develop client portfolio through new business opportunities
  • Handle technical claim cover requests and liaise with brokers, insurers, Accounts, and Claims functions
  • Provide technical training and development to junior team members
  • Compile and provide statistics, interpreting the data and explaining it to others

Requirements:

  • CII/Dip CII qualification, educated to A-Level standard or equivalent
  • A firm grasp of risk exposure, with the ability to determine acceptance criteria and risk classifications in complex or unfamiliar situations
  • Underwriting experience in servicing accounts, utilizing specialist technical knowledge to handle claim queries and provide a connected service
  • The ability to extract and piece together required learning from various opportunities and sources
  • Experience in planning and prioritizing client renewals and seeking new business opportunities
  • Strong, proactive communication and social skills with clients and colleagues
  • A good level of numeracy and literacy, coupled with excellent attention to detail
  • An analytical problem-solving approach with initiative and a 'can do' attitude
  • An insightful, ambitious, and willing teammate who takes ownership and accountability, and is keen to share expertise
  • Strong trading and negotiation skills, ensuring excellent outcomes for customers, brokers, Pen, and insurers
