Job Overview

The Accounting Supervisor will be responsible for preparing and reviewing all accounting records for the European and Saudi Arabian offices. This includes entity accounts preparation, working closely with the Accounting Manager - Europe, and the Tax Supervisor - Europe.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of entity accounts, working closely with the Accounting Manager - Europe, Director of Finance - Europe, and the Firmwide Tax function. This involves preparation and review of statutory format financial statements, audits, and responding to queries from external advisers.
  • Review of revenue and balance sheet reconciliations, analysis, and correction of discrepancies.
  • Preparation of journal entries.
  • Coordination with teams within the Finance Department, as well as Functional Area and Office Leaders, to ensure the appropriate use of the Chart of Accounts and accurate GL coding.
  • Leadership and participation in complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the Finance team as needed.
  • Meeting accounting operational standards by contributing financial information to strategic plans and reviews, resolving problems, and identifying system improvements.
  • Answering accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
  • Involvement in outgoing bank payments.
  • Input into the firm-wide budget process.
  • Ensuring all VAT regulations are adhered to, with support from the Accounting Manager - Europe, and preparation of VAT Returns.
  • Leadership and support of HMRC initiatives and changes, including Making Tax Digital, Construction Industry Scheme, Economic Crime Act, and the Basis Period Reform.
  • Gathering information necessary to support inquiries and audits from various taxing authorities.
  • Streamlining and enhancing processes within the department.
  • Acting as a backup for other team members during periods of absence and as needed.
  • Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Safeguarding financial information by completing document management site backups and following internal controls.
  • Maintaining customer confidence and protecting operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Supporting ad-hoc assignments, such as partner time reports, insurance renewals, and ONS surveys.
    • Qualifications:
    • Proven and progressive experience, including working in a fast-paced, challenging professional services environment; experience in a large global law firm would be desirable.
    • qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
    • Experience and knowledge in European and Cross Border tax is preferred.
    • Demonstrated high level of diplomacy, confidentiality, and excellent judgment in navigating sensitive issues; ability to engage teams and collaborate with other teams with the objective of distinctive client services.
    • The candidate needs to be a critical thinker who possesses a high level of intellectual curiosity and ability to collaborate effectively with management and the wider finance function.
    • Strong Excel knowledge.
    • Knowledge of 3E and Chrome River would be an advantage.
