Chief Financial Officer – equipment rental organization with diverse subsidiaries and ongoing expansion plans

Location: Remote with frequent national travel required

Ideal candidates should possess:

  • Accreditation from a recognized U.K. or Irish Accountancy Body.
  • A comprehensive understanding of fiscal policies, investment regulations, and tax laws.
  • A minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience with a proven record of rapid advancement in senior finance leadership roles within a complex, multi-site environment.
  • Strong commercial insight, preferably with experience as a CFO in the equipment rental or related sectors, such as construction supply, industrial services, or multi-site B2B distribution.
  • Experience in mergers and acquisitions, along with integration processes, is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with management information and business intelligence software, including implementation experience.
  • Background in pricing and yield analysis is also beneficial.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities, with experience in team management and a collaborative approach, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A demonstrated history of leading and managing high-growth initiatives.
  • The ability to think strategically while also being hands-on in daily operations.
  • Capability to thrive in an environment lacking the support structures typical of larger corporations.
  • A proactive, inquisitive mindset with practical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong and positive communication abilities.
  • A willingness to engage actively in operations and continuously seek opportunities for business improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Inspire, motivate, and develop the finance function across the group, focusing on Financial Reporting, Financial Planning & Analysis, Taxation, and Finance Integration/Transformation.
  • Strategic Support: Assist in analyzing and shaping the strategic direction for the group and its entities, facilitating both organic and acquisitive growth and investment decisions.
  • Commercial Performance: Collaborate with the CEO and leadership teams to enhance the commercial performance of the group through best practice financial planning and analysis processes, as well as developing a commercially focused business partnering model.
  • Operational Oversight: Ensure the financial integrity of group reporting while enhancing financial planning, key performance indicator reporting, and forecasting.
  • Finance Integration/Transformation: Lead the financial integration process, focusing on systems and process improvements.
  • Control Measures: Establish and maintain robust internal controls, ensuring compliance with financial reporting and tax regulations.
