Grigor McClelland Doctoral Dissertation Award

The Society for the Advancement of Management Studies is pleased to offer the Grigor McClelland Doctoral Dissertation Award, an annual prize of £5,000 that recognizes and promotes innovative PhD or DBA research in management and organization studies.

Scope and Eligibility

The award aims to recognize and award doctoral research that is expansive and imaginative, covering significantly new terrain or countering existing thinking within management and organizational research. To be eligible, candidates must have completed their doctoral dissertation and received the final award of their PhD or DBA within the previous year.

Application Process

Candidates are asked to submit:

  1. A fully completed application form.
  2. A digital copy of their entire dissertation in English.
  3. An extended abstract of up to 5 pages, summarizing the thesis and detailing the originality of the theory development and empirical results, as well as the implications for research and practice.
  4. Proof of the final award of their qualification.

Applications should be electronically submitted to the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies before the deadline.

Selection and Award

A panel of senior scholars within management and organization studies will shortlist and select the award winner based on the quality and originality of the research. The winner will be announced during a special session at the annual EGOS conference, where finalists will present their research and receive a stipend to cover travel and accommodation expenses.

The award has been presented to several notable researchers in the field, including Pedro Monteiro, Douglas Lepisto, Ryan Raffaelli, Henrika Franck, and Tyler Wry.
