About the Role

As a Graduate Systems Engineer at UK Research and Innovation, you will be part of a dynamic and collaborative team responsible for all the Systems Engineering activities required for the scientific instruments produced by the UK Astronomy Technology Centre. This is a unique opportunity to work on instruments used by professional astronomers at observatories worldwide, as well as other fields such as earth observation and medical research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out functional analyses of systems
  • Capture and manage requirements
  • Identify and define interfaces
  • Develop technical budgets
  • Carry out engineering analyses
  • Design and develop system architectures for complex scientific instruments
  • Define and plan tests
  • Carry out verification activities
  • Contribute to the development of comprehensive documentation and reports
Requirements
  • Achieved, or be on course to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree, in a relevant field of study
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK at time of starting employment
  • Excellent communication and social skills
  • Good team worker but able to work independently when needed and ask for help when appropriate
  • Demonstrate a systematic and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Proven experience in scripting and/or modelling
  • Attention to detail but with the ability to take the big picture view
  • Future development potential
