Genetic Technologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Genetic Technologist to join the Clinical Genomics department at The Royal Marsden. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing analysis of acquired genetic aberrations by G-band karyotyping and FISH, working closely with the laboratory team to achieve high-quality analytical results.
Main Responsibilities- Undertake initial microscopic analysis on a proportion of the total workload under the direction of the Section's Lead.
- Provide accurate and reliable analysis of samples.
- Ensure the correct analytic process is undertaken on each sample analyzed.
- Follow instructions from the Section's lead on the priority of each sample to be analyzed.
- Participate in G-banding analysis and related techniques required for chromosome analysis.
- Participate in FISH analysis, including paraffin-embedded sections.
- Ensure knowledge of all related instrumentation used in these processes.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Ability to use Microsoft software or equivalent.
- Evidence of professional development.
- Self-confident, contributes to laboratory meetings.
- Able to work unsupervised.
- Flexible approach to work.
- BSc degree in Biological Sciences/Genetics.
- Evidence of training related to a compatible laboratory discipline.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Able to understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Experience in working in a relevant diagnostic laboratory.
