Design and Process Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Design and Process Engineer to join our dynamic design team on a 6-month contract. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of innovative machinery and processes for the production of rail track fixing clips.

Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with our design team to develop cutting-edge machinery and processes.
  2. Design and optimize manufacturing processes to increase production efficiency.
  3. Work on-site to ensure seamless integration and functionality of new machines and processes.
  4. Develop flexible machine forming centers/stations with interchangeable forming heads.
  5. Implement in-process testing and control mechanisms to enhance Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) metrics.
  6. Replace existing robotic handling solutions with simpler, more efficient alternatives.
Requirements:
  1. Proficiency in SolidWorks.
  2. Proven experience in machine and process design, particularly in industrial manufacturing environments.
  3. Ability to proactively identify and solve design challenges without waiting for detailed instructions.
  4. Hands-on experience with core processes: cutting to length straight and coiled bar stock, heating bar to 1000°C, forming via press, servo head, hydraulic, and robotic forming, quenching, tempering, painting, plastic cover fitting, other minor assembly, and inspection, packing (currently sack).
  5. Familiarity with modular design principles and international power/safety/machine regulations.
  6. Strong understanding of production processes and quality control measures.
Preferred Skills:
  1. Experience with in-process testing and quality control integration.
  2. Knowledge of value stream mapping (VSM) and quality data analysis.
  3. Understanding of outsourcing processes like quenching, tempering, washing, painting, and powder coating.
  4. Familiarity with handling a variety of product families with different forming and processing requirements.
