Job Title: Process Design Engineer - Manufacturing Innovator

Contract Type: Outside IR35

Job Overview:

Jigsaw Business Group is seeking a skilled Process Design Engineer to join our dynamic design team on a 6-month contract. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of innovative manufacturing processes and machinery, specifically for the production of rail track fixing clips.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with our design team to develop cutting-edge machinery and processes that drive efficiency and productivity.
  • Design and optimize manufacturing processes to increase production capacity and reduce costs.
  • Work on-site to ensure seamless integration and functionality of new machines and processes, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum output.
  • Create modular production line designs that are flexible, scalable, and adaptable to changing market demands.
  • Develop flexible machine forming centers/stations with interchangeable forming heads, enabling rapid product changeovers and reduced production lead times.
  • Implement in-process testing and control mechanisms to enhance Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) metrics, ensuring products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.
  • Replace existing robotic handling solutions with simpler, more efficient alternatives, reducing maintenance costs and improving overall efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and other CAD software.
  • Proven experience in machine and process design, particularly in industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to proactively identify and solve design challenges without waiting for detailed instructions, demonstrating a high degree of autonomy and initiative.
  • Hands-on experience with core processes, including cutting to length, heating, forming, quenching, tempering, painting, and inspection.
  • Familiarity with modular design principles and international power/safety/machine regulations.
  • Strong understanding of production processes and quality control measures, ensuring products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with in-process testing and quality control integration, ensuring products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.
  • Knowledge of value stream mapping (VSM) and quality data analysis, enabling data-driven decision making and process improvements.
  • Understanding of outsourcing processes, such as quenching, tempering, washing, painting, and powder coating, ensuring seamless integration with external suppliers.
  • Familiarity with handling a variety of product families with different forming and processing requirements, demonstrating adaptability and flexibility.
