We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Anaesthetist Specialist to join our team at King's College Hospital. As a Consultant Anaesthetist, you will be responsible for providing a high-quality service for Anaesthesia, including all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department.
Main Duties- Provide clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
- Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
- Contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trust's R&D framework.
- Contribute to audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, clinical governance programs and learning from Deaths.
- Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the department's/ Division's Business Plan.
- Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for anaesthesia services.
- Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty.
- Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained.
- Undertake Divisional management duties as agreed with the Divisional/departmental Manager/Clinical Director.
- Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies.
- Prepare for and undertake the protective interventions that you are responsible for in a manner that is consistent with evidence-based practice and maintaining patient safety.
- Be accountable for implementation of the Code of Practice within own department/area of responsibility.
- FRCA or equivalent
- Masters degree or equivalent.
- Additional qualifications/diplomas in specialist areas for example, Perioperative Medicine, Trauma Sciences or Regional Anaesthesia
- Full Registration with GMC and completed subspecialty training programme in anaesthesia
- Eligible to apply for a Substantive Consultant post – CCT or within 6 months of completion
- Wide experience in delivery of anaesthesia for general, major/high risk surgery and trauma/cepod surgery
- Award of CCT or equivalent.
- Experience of delivering anaesthesia independently and supervising junior colleagues within that capacity.
- Major trauma management experience
- Experience in high-risk obstetrics
- Pre-assessment and perioperative medicine experience
- Additional training/fellowship in a specialist area
- Experience in day to day organisation of anaesthetic services in a busy Teaching Hospital
- Familiar with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
- Management course and/or qualification
- Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
- Must have undertaken and completed audit projects and QIPs
- Experience of clinical research
- Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of anaesthesia
- Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.
- Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation.
- Teaching qualification
- Experience of Teaching PROMPT
