We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our Haematology and Blood Transfusion department at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality scientific results and contributing to the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a range of complex investigations to assist in the diagnosis of disease and monitoring of treatment.
- Rotate through Haematology, Coagulation, Blood Transfusion, and Immunohaematology sections, using manual, semi-automated, and automated techniques on highly specialized analytical equipment.
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide a quality service to our users.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new procedures and protocols to improve laboratory efficiency and patient care.
- Participate in the training and management of Practitioner BMS staff, and assist with the development of staff skills and knowledge.
- Current HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Substantial post-registration experience and competency in required activities, preferably in a UK laboratory setting.
- Experience of using relevant instrumentation within the laboratory.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Able to work to an appropriate standard of competency in all sections, and through rotation, maintain those skills.
- Sufficient skill and knowledge to deputize for Band 7 staff in their absence to maintain workflow and manage staffing.
- IT skills appropriate to the department.
- BSc Biomedical Sciences or Degree accredited by IBMS as suitable for HCPC registration.
- Specialist portfolio and/or MSc.
